Spanish NationsIn the global society in which we live, how fortunate we are to have the opportunity to learn about other cultures as well as other languages here at Boltz. While studying at Boltz Middle School, students can select from among the following Spanish courses.

Spanish Course Offerings at Boltz Middle School

World Languages Exploratory (1/2 Spanish, 1/2 German) – 6th grade

In this class, students are introduced to the Spanish language.  Students learn introductions & basic conversational elements, the Spanish alphabet, numbers, clothing, colors, animals, geography and basic expressions of preference.  Cultural aspects of the Spanish Speaking World, including traditions and foods, are also included in the Exploratory Spanish Curriculum.

Spanish 1A – 7th grade

This course is a high school course that earns credit towards graduation if student continues and successfully completes Spanish 1B at the end of 8th grade.  In this class, students build a foundation, in Spanish language learning while engaging in topics that include greetings and introductions, numbers, time telling, school and free time activities/hobbies.  Reading, writing, listening, and speaking skills are emphasized throughout the year’s instruction.  Students also gain a deeper understanding of cultural topics, including the traditions and food of Spanish speaking countries.  This year-long course is more in depth than the exploratory course offered in 6th grade and requires practice both in and outside of class.

Spanish 1B – 8th grade

This course is a continuation of the study that was begun in the Spanish 1A course.  High school graduation credit is earned at the end of the successful completion of this course and the district language exam.  In this class, students further develop their skills in the Spanish language by learning about topics that include family, personal interests, and descriptions of character.  Reading, writing, listening, and speaking skills are emphasized throughout the year’s instruction.  Students also continue to gain a deeper understanding of cultural topics, including the traditions and food of Spanish speaking countries.  This year-long course is more in depth than the exploratory course offered in 6th grade and requires practice both in and outside of class.
