Academics:
Eighth graders are unique in their capabilities and capacities as they approach the end of middle school. Eighth grade teachers have high expectations and a vision for what this year can bring. We know that students who invest the most in this school year will gain the most from it.
Eighth graders continue their educational journey in a culminating school year that broadens their view of the world. In Science, they enhance their analytical skills through laboratory investigations that require the use of the scientific method. Ultimately, they develop a deeper understanding of cause and effect within their living environment and learn to search for reliable methodologies.
This heightened awareness is further developed in Social Studies, where students begin to view the world with a greater sense of citizenship and responsibility to our society.
Mathematics focuses on critical thinking skills to prepare students for success in high school and everyday life.
In Language Arts, students take reading and writing to new levels of creative prose and layered understanding through novels, fostering more mature, critical thought and connections to our society’s classic works. Combined with the plentiful elective options, sports, sponsored clubs, mental health supports, and a compassionate administrative team, you can see a great school year taking shape.
Students benefit from the integration of WIN (What I Need) time in everyone's schedules. WIN provides students with unique opportunities to deepen their knowledge in various contexts. Most importantly, it ensures that students achieve their goals in literacy and numeracy.

Leadership:
Leadership opportunities for 8th graders encompass a diverse range of activities, offering avenues for personal growth and community impact. Participating in programs like WEB (Where Everybody Belongs) allows students to mentor incoming peers, fostering a supportive environment within the school. Tech theater provides hands-on experience in production and organization, honing leadership skills through collaboration and creativity. Serving as buddies for younger students or joining the National Junior Honor Society (NJHS) instills values of service and academic excellence, while initiatives like Give Next empower students to make a difference through philanthropy and community engagement. Additionally, involvement in Bridges programs fosters cross-cultural understanding and leadership through diversity. These opportunities not only cultivate leadership skills but also foster empathy, teamwork, and responsibility, preparing 8th graders for success in high school and beyond.
