Students Build Eco-sustainable Terrarium for Golden Dart Frogs

Ms. Murphy's ELO (Extended Learning Opportunity) class has created a completely eco-sustainable environment in a terrarium they put together for three, tiny Golden Dart Frogs. These frogs are one of the most poisonous amphibians in their native jungle habit where they eat very poisonous insects. But don't worry, when Golden Dart Frogs are raised domestically and fed non-poisonous insects they are not poisonous.

The students began the project by researching which materials, plants, insects they would need to create a healthy environment that would be completely self-sustainable - from the basic materials to the plants and insects the terrarium would require.  They also needed to learn how to control moisture and oxygen by selecting the correct plants.

One of the last steps was introducing isopods and springtails to the terrarium. These insects provide food for the frogs and will keep the environment clean. The students named the frogs Mango, Queso, and Chip.

Finally, students presented their group's focus and involvement in the project.
