Hello, I am Annie McNeil and I have been teaching art for 15 years implementing a choice-based art model. I believe all children are artists. They are curious, imaginative, brave, and excited. This studio provides students the space and time to explore, create, and tell their stories. In a choice-based art studio, students are the problem finders and problem solvers. Students have full ownership of media, process, direction, and outcomes. Curriculum is flexible and in response to student interests, needs.
My Guiding Principles:
What do Artists Do?
The Student is the Artist.
The Classroom is their Studio.
Our studio is organized into many media centers including Drawing, Painting, Collage, Sculpture/Clay, Fiber and Technology. After a center is introduced (how to set-up, age-appropriate skills, how to clean-up), students may work at that center anytime they choose. Subject matter, medium, and time spent on an artwork is up to the student. I provide whole-class and small group demonstrations, one-on-one help, and organize each center with resources including posters, books, and technology that the student can use independently. I'm looking forward to a wonderful year creating with your young artist and fostering their unique creativity.
Along with teaching creativity, I enjoy spending time with my family. I have two small boys that keep me busy, aged 7 and 2. My personal art includes pottery, painting, and film editing. I love to paddle board, camp, and practice yoga.
